Healthier Living with a Chronic Condition Workshop

Living with a chronic condition is for many a daily challenge. Frustration, depression, fatigue, pain, and isolation are often only some of the accompanying emotions that complicate fulfilled living.

The Healthier Living with a Chronic Condition Workshop was developed by Kate Lorig, Dr.P.H, Stanford Professor of Medicine. This self-management education workshop is designed to help individuals develop the skills and confidence to manage their chronic conditions and related symptoms on a day-to-day basis.

Adults of all ages experiencing any kind of chronic health conditions will benefit. The workshop will be offered for six Fridays, starting April 23rd from 2:00 – 4:30 pm at the Senior Center, 490 North Harold Street, Fort Bragg. The facilitators, who have been trained by Stanford standards, are Elizabeth Morton and Waldi Helma, both professionals at Redwood Coast Senior Center.

It is the process in which we will teach the program that makes it effective. We will focus on building skills, action planning, problem-solving techniques, decision-making, sharing experiences, and support. Former participants experience improvements in their physical and mental health, including significant improvement in exercise, cognitive symptom management, communication with physicians, and an increase in self-reported general health.

This workshop is offered free of charge and is sponsored by Mendocino County Health and Human Services, Public Health Branch and Redwood Coast Senior Center. For more information and pre-registration please contact Elizabeth Morton at 961-4310 or Waldi Helma at 961-4305.
